Tutorial: Fairy Gothmother

Is it too early to be planning for Halloween?

I think that red would have been even better than orange, but I have yet to acquire a red eyeshadow, unfortunately.

The brows are pretty standard, if a little darker and more defined than usual. I did add some orange at the inner corners (Wrath from the Monarch palette).

To do the eyes:

First, prime and add a white eyeshadow base (I used NYX Milk). This will ensure vibrant and lasting color. My eye primer is Wet n Wild's Fergie Take On the Day primer.
After that, use a dark brown shadow to form a winged shape. This will be a guideline for the rest of the eyeshadow, so get it more or less as you would like it. I chose to wing it out up past the crease (or what passes for a crease on my eyes. I used Papilio from the Monarch palette.
Apply orange eyeshadow over most of the lid. If you have hooded eyelids, apply it beyond the crease. Keep the top neat if you can, liner will be going over the edge of it. I used Wrath from the Monarch palette.

Add a pink eyeshadow (Killing Jar from the Monarch palette) over the innermost portion of the upper lid. Allow it to follow the curve of the orange shadow that was applied in the previous step.

Add a little matte black eyeshadow along the outer edge and lashline to further define the eyes. If you want to define your crease more, do so in this step. Plot twist: the shadow I used for this step wasn't from the Monarch palette. Blend the edges of each color as needed.

Use a beige/champagne shadow to highlight and brighten the lower lid and inner corner, as desired. For this look, I used Telepathy. I'm sure you can guess what palette it's from.
Finally, line your eyes. A liquid or gel liner would be best for a nice, crisp edge. Maybe cake liner would work too. I used Wet n Wild's black cream liner here. Apply liner along the upper lashline and wing it out following the curves of your eyeshadow. Line the top edge of your eyeshadow until about 2/3 of the way to the inner corner. This line would be in your crease if you have one. If not, just line the top of your eyeshadow. This is why the orange needed to be neat and applied past the fold in your eye if you have hooded/Asian/monolid/otherwise non-"standard" eyes.

Here's how it looks on me with my eyes closed.

And with eyes open. As I mentioned before, this can be a really good way to define your orbital crease if you've got that going for you.

I tried to do a more dramatic contour as well, using a color that's very cool on me (Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe) with a touch of purple at the top of the contour (Maybelline Color Tattoo in Painted Purple). The red blush is Stila's Convertible Color in Rosewood. I also applied Tough as Taupe along my nose, near my eyebrows and eyes. If you have a defined orbital crease, you can also contour there (รก la Jo from coffee_pls). I'm wearing my darkest lipstick, which is Cinnamon Spice from Wet n Wild.

Have at it.

Note: I realized, after all of this, that I forgot to put anything on my lashes. Oops. Finish with mascara and/or falsies for extra drama.
